Yankees Shortstop all pro player and my favorite Derek Jeter is selling his Trump Towersdigs for a cool $18 million dollar, so if you have some big bucks you can own this amazing Contemporary atop 88th-floor penthouse of the All-star Pro Derek Jeter. The Snitch hears, the penthouse comes with 5,425-square-foot captain’s quarter’s boasts 360-degree views of Manhattan, four bedrooms, 5 1/2 baths, an eat-in kitchen and a fireplace. Now for 18 million, this penthouse should have all these things but wait a minute I’m not finish yet the Snitch also spy the house has ultra-suede wallpaper covering the 16-foot-high walls. There’s a pool table, a poker table that seats eight, a dining-room table with room for 14, and even an old-school bar tabletop Pac-Man game. Can you say “let’s have some fun” It sound like the all-star pro knows how to have fun. Now the house has just gone back on the market after expiring from the MLS at a whopping price of $20million price 2 years ago. Now he has it back on the market for 2million dollars less. Are you looking for a deal? Well $2 million dollars off is a big deal.  It’s been reported that Jeter has built a new home in Tampa is reportedly nearly 31,000 square feet, twice as large as any other home in the city. How to: Decorate With High Ceilings?

High ceilings; I can’t think of anyone who dislike them including myself. I love high ceiling and the prestige and stature that come with them but many times I’m asked how you decorate a room with them?  How high should I hang a picture or how to make a room comfortable and relaxing without feeling swallowed up in a room with them? These are all valid questions and deserve good answers in turn.  

The key is to keep the scale and balance of the room. The “rule” is the design of the space will be more interesting by dividing the space into thirds vertically and /or horizontally.  

Using this design rule of thumb and applying it to a room with high ceilings is fairly simple. Once you have done this, important items within the space should be placed within the thirds. Think of the height of the wall in thirds and decorate the bottom third of the wall/space.

 

Take note:

 

1). Large chandeliers are recommended for living room with high ceilings.

2). Wall pictures can be hung at eye level to reduce the overwhelming architectural elements of the tall walls.

3). Curtains from ceiling to floor to keep the warmth and height of the room but still feel comfortable.

4). Paint the ceiling the same color of the wall if you have some type of architectural details like a beam of some sort to bring the height of the ceiling and the rest of the room together. Check out some examples below

This large ceiling room want's to bring attention to the height of the room by allowing the window covering to reach all the way to the floor will bring the focus of the eye downward rather than upward. Floor length elements force the eye gate downward. This room is beautifully done

This room does the same as the one above but also allows the chandeliers help bring focus to the height of the ceilings

I love the blend of color of the ceiling and walls there both the same color but its OK because of the texture of the ceiling allow this to work, along with the chandelier make this room cozy and comfortable

Now this room is a perfect example of bringing the ceiling down. the the paneling and barn-board ceiling along with the two separate colors on the wall makes this room so right.

High ceilings, but picture  are at eye level which makes this room come together. I love the balance of this room. Check out how the designer hangs the picture. The picture aren't long-rangers but it has molding around them which give more depth and with to the art work

This room is perfect example of ceiling height. Long curtains and on the sofa wall is a large over scale art piece at eye level. This room strikes the perfect balance.

Rules to remember:

• The worst thing you can do in a living room with high ceilings is to place your wall decorations too high on the wall. Always make sure you artwork is hung at eye level.
•  Long curtains is your friend in rooms with high ceilings from top to bottom.
•  Chandeliers can help bring the ceiling down while bringing elegance at the same time. 
• Play up your high ceilings with interesting materials like reclaimed wood, paint or wallpaper murals.

Sometimes I love ugly things

Like these lamps.

I mean let's face it, the orange color makes them look like they should be on Carol Brady's nightstand,-but they've got a beautiful soul. :)

When I saw them at Goodwill I knew I had to have them. The detail work is elegant and a little funky and the best part is there are no tropical birds on them. 

(For some reason our local Goodwill seems to have an abnormal amount of lamps with parrots and flamingos on them.)

I just don't do tropical birds, 

And the second best part was that the lamps were just the right price for me.

Despite how much I actually do like the orange color, I am going to redo them. 

Suggestions? 

I have a few ideas but I'd love to hear yours!

Friday's Runway Decorate - Children’s Rooms

Hello Friends, This week we have a special Friday's Runway Decorate. Were dedicating it to the kids. Yes that's right its child's play runway decorate. Today we will feature beautiful children runway models and beautiful interiors that matches them. Check out this week runway decorate

I absolutely love this beautiful runway young girl model she is so ready for big-time! Check out her cute outfit isn’t the colors she's wearing beautiful on her?               This bedroom conveys the same color but what I like most about this room is the decals on the wall. Doesn’t it remind you of the cute hair peace on the little model head?  This is what runway decorates all about.

OK!!! Look how little miss fancy is working the runway she's working it with her cute sunglasses and all. We have model Miss Fancy walking with a blue jean skirt with an orange stripe and a peak of orange ruffle around the waste and how about the orange halter top, topping it off with a orange headband.                 Now take a look at this kid’s room that normally would be for a boy. But were showing how this room doesn’t have to just work for boys but a girl can rock this room also. Doesn’t this room speak volume in color and spunk? I love it!! 

Now let’s check out the double-mint twins aren't they cute!!!! I chose these rooms as the runway match because of the beautiful colors that the both twins are wearing but also because of the beautiful bunk beds aren’t they lovely? Isn’t this a good way to decorate for twins? Can’t you see them sharing this lovely room? I love this room what a double dose of fun.

Before and After-Clients Living Room

Hello beautiful friends how are things? I’m very excited to share with you a project I worked on with a beautiful couple who bought a new home a few years back. I’m not sure if I ever told you I worked for Furniture Company a few years ago in there design studio and while working for them I was able to meet some pretty cool people like the Floyd family. The Floyds were looking to make a statement in their new home so they decided to find a designer to help them. One day the Floyds walked into the store where I worked and asked for a designer that can help them do just that. The Floyds made it quite clear they knew how to decorate themselves but they wanted a new perspective and point of view and I was more than happy to oblige. The Floyds wanted me to makeover there living room, I couldn’t tell you how honored I was to do it. It also helped that I had a blank slate to work with we’ll almost. The Floyds had already purchase there furniture on their own, so my job was to make the furniture they already purchased look good  thank goodness they had really good taste “woo dodged a bullet there” Here is how it all went down! 

The rules:

No paint on the walls! But still want colorful room

Use the furniture they already bought and chose themselves

Uses the window covering they already bought and chose themselves

Make some of their art pieces they had in their old house work in the new scheme of things

Not a large budget

Did I do it?

As you can see I had a empty slate, most designers dream. Remember I told you earlier the client purchased their own furniture, that eventually was introduced to the room. Now check out the after photo below. Oh I'll like to apologize for the blurry photos before hand.

Sorry for all the blurriness in this photo but this is what I had to work with at the time.  So what do you think of the after photo? The Client did a good job choosing their furniture and window covering right! They also picked out the accent tables also,it was my job to arrange and accessorizes the space. How do you think I did?

Homeowner art on the wall was a must keep and remember no paint on the walls. We had to bring in color with the accessories on the table and the hutch.

I promise I have a solution.  I have the perfect photographer who can help and I am convinced she will make my work look as good in pictures as they do in the actual room.  Kristy!!
